Revolution: The Earl of Devonshire addressing the people from the steps of the Old Malt Cross, Nottingham, Nov 23rd 1688 Oil. 1869. Private collection. The subject of the picture is a minor revolution in England that replaced King James II with William and Mary. The Old Malt Cross once stood at the west end of Long Row in Nottingham. It was a meeting place and appears in at least one other of Bussey's historical pictures. Sold at Christies April 1916 by J Goodwin Esq. 51.5 x 77 inches. |
